The United Way of Whiteside County held a "popcorn party" at Northside School, 520 N. Genesee Avenue, Morrison, IL, with Mrs. Deb Hauptman's first grade class on Wednesday, November 30, 2011.

Each year the United Way asks children in schools in Sterling, Rock Falls, Tampico, Prophetstown, and Morrison, IL, to save pennies for two weeks, in order to help others.  The winning class in each building then receives a "popcorn party" for turning in the most pennies.

Pictured, left-to-right, with the students are Marsha Dimond, United Way Administrative Assistant, instructor Hauptman, and Craig Bowen, United Way volunteer.

This year the children in Whiteside County turned in 1,000,153 pennies, totaling $10,001.53.

The United Way of Whiteside County provides funding to 18 local agencies.  Last year the organization provided a total of 2,859 services to Morrison residents.

Donations can be made by mailing them to United Way, Post Office Box 95, Morrison, IL  61270.  Check out their website at www.uwwhiteside.org.
