The United Way of Whiteside County held a "popcorn party" at Northside School, 520 N. Genesee Avenue, Morrison, IL, with Mrs. Deb Hauptman's first grade class on Wednesday, November 30, 2011.
Each year the United Way asks children in schools in Sterling, Rock Falls, Tampico, Prophetstown, and Morrison, IL, to save pennies for two weeks, in order to help others. The winning class in each building then receives a "popcorn party" for turning in the most pennies.

This year the children in Whiteside County turned in 1,000,153 pennies, totaling $10,001.53.
