Rain, rain, go away! We have had enough for now!

We had water almost to the front door at The Morrison Post, and my yard is still a mess from recent well drilling. Of course, that is the one place in the entire yard that the dogs have to check out as soon as we open the door. What is it about dogs and little boys that makes them so interested in the mud? My problems are small compared to those of people living around the Quad Cities. High winds and rain have beat on them for the last couple weeks and have done some significant damage.

A local drag racer who did very well this weekend at The World Series of Drag Racing at Cordova Dragway was Brad Weets. I don’t have all the details yet, but I understand he brought home over $4,000 in winnings for that weekend! Way to go Brad! When we again publish on Friday, I should have some pictures and results from The World Series.

I should mention that since Monday is a holiday for the Post Office and The Morrison Post as well, we will publish on Friday instead of Monday. You should have your paper for the weekend this week!

I don’t normally highlight a classified in my editorial, but someone brought in a small money pouch that was found at the fair. If your kids hit the fair and carry a money pouch, ask them if they lost it. It isn’t a grand sum of money, but I would have been very sorry to have lost it as a kid. Let’s get that thing claimed!

If you are traveling this weekend as I am planning, please be careful and look out for the other guy.

The Morrison High School varsity football team started the season just as they had left off last year. I had friends that went to Newman when I was in high school, but it was still nice to beat up on them in sports.

I wrote a short article on moles in this issue. If you have them in your yard, you know what an aggravation they are. Happy hunting.

Be sure to mark your calendar for the weekend of September 15th and 16th. That is typically the Harvest Hammer and Paint the Town, but this year several events have been added on Sunday, including The Morrison Car Show, Rotary Baggo Tournament, and VFW hog roast to name a few. This should prove to be one of the biggest weekends for Morrison for the year (along with the fair of course). If we can just get Mother Nature to cooperate, it should be fun for all!

You may notice that we again have letters from overseas. We ran out of Cory’s letters, and we heard about it! One concerned person called and wanted to make sure he was OK since she hadn’t seen his letters for a while. She also said that she prayed for him every week. Cory is fine, but is not always in a position where he can e-mail like he has. We will continue to follow this young man and we enjoy hearing what he has to say from his perspective in Iraq. We welcome letters of any sort from other local people serving over seas. Many of them receive The Morrison Post weekly, and we would love to hear how you are doing.

I want to thank all of the businesses who advertise in The Morrison Post. It is their support that pays for the creation, production, and delivery of this free newspaper. Please show them that you appreciate it by shopping with them and mentioning The Morrison Post.
