Editorial-The Morrison Post

It’s finally starting to feel like fall now. I’m glad. Even as late as last week we were running the air conditioning at work in the afternoon. We may be going right from air conditioning to heat if it keeps cooling down.

I always try to remind people when this time of year comes along, to watch for a couple things when driving. The first is farm equipment. It’s pretty easy to come over a hill and be surprised by a slow moving piece of farm equipment heading to or from a field. The other thing is deer. They are really active at this time of the year, and harvesting the fields stirs them up even more. Night time driving pretty much includes the hazard of deer at this time of the year. So, stay alert.

I know that some are curious how my skunk problem ended up. At this point, it is a little bit of a mystery. The professional trapper has only caught a cat so far. (These are live traps…The kitty is fine!...Although a little aggravated.) At this point, all we can think is that he was just a passer by, who was surprised by one of our dogs as he returned to wherever home is. The house almost smells normal now. The same goes for the dog.

My three year old son had a big treat on Saturday morning. The corn field behind our house was being combined, and we stood and watched for a few minutes. Before long, the farmer stopped and asked if he wanted a ride. I’m glad I was standing behind him, because he would have run right over me to take this ride. He and I rode for a while, and we both had a great time. That little act of kindness just made my son’s day. Of course he had to tell everybody about it throughout the day.

I had the pleasure of attending the ribbon cutting for Aubrey’s Candles and Crafts last week. It is always encouraging to see a new business start up in town. I think Aubrey’s energy and enthusiasm will make that business a success. Stop by and see her!

Thanks for reading!
