Post Editorial

Now it really feels like fall. The temps this week should remind us that winter is right around the corner, and if the temperature doesn’t do it, the biting winds will. On the plus side, Mother Nature gives us a real show this time of year with the leaves turning color. As long as we don’t get a strong rain, we should have some leaves left through the week anyhow.

A friend told me a few weeks ago that a day tripping section would be a great addition to the paper. I agree, and I am thinking about how best to gather that information. I can give you one right now though. I went with my wife, son and parents on a drive to Peoria on Saturday. My mother grew up in Peoria, and I barely remember visiting my grandparents there. Houses always seem bigger in your childhood memories than they actually are when you see them as an adult. Anyhow, Mom wanted to show us where she would baby-sit to make some money growing up. We found Grandview Drive, which is on a bluff overlooking the Illinois River, and saw not only some stunning homes, but also were treated to a stunning show of colors from the trees in the Illinois River Valley. There is probably only a week or so left to see these beautiful colors, but I would recommend a trip to Peoria to see the leaves. The ladies can enjoy an outdoor shopping mall in Peoria if they are inclined to. We topped the trip off with a meal at Kaiserhof in Bradford. This is a German restaurant located right on route 40. This should be a sure thing if you enjoy German food. Be sure to hit it before 5:00 or better yet, make reservations. They come from far and wide to eat there, and you will wait for a while if you don’t have reservations. (309) 897-2505.

No news on the skunk front. I suppose that is good news, although we are afraid to let the dogs out by themselves after dark. Our determined dog started excavating a tunnel under the lawn shed, where I am sure the skunk has made home. I guess she hasn’t had enough. My wife thinks she wants revenge. In this case, revenge is a meal best served with tomato juice.

We will be publishing early for our next issue, since the post office is closed next Monday. We will print on Friday of this week, and you should see us in your mailboxes on Saturday. So, I guess this is a busy week for us. I already have one story that I wasn’t able to research thoroughly enough to put it in today. It will be there Friday.

I am getting my first cold of the season out of the way early it appears. It reminds me to get a flu shot. I haven’t gone to get one for many years now, but research shows that you are less likely to get respiratory flu bugs if you do get one. It has become a matter of public health now too. We are such a mobile culture, that viruses can spread very quickly, and that can be life threatening to the very young and the older people. I would hate to think that I infected my grandparents during a visit. There are several flu shot clinics going on and you can get them at your doctor’s office, or at the Whiteside County Health Department Clinic.

Thank you for reading The Morrison Post, and for letting our advertisers know that their ads are effective. They know that we are the only way to reach everyone in Morrison with their message. It is good to remind them though!
