Editorial

Finally, the weather is changing! Most of the snow has now melted, and the dogs now come in with muddy feet. It’s looking like spring now. I’m sure Mother Nature has a few more surprises up her sleeve though. I can’t say how enjoyable it is to listen to the birds singing Sunday morning while I write this editorial. I have always had a love/hate relationship with spring. Either is it warm and sunny, or it is cold, rainy and windy along with muddy. After a winter like we have had, I will take even the worst spring has to offer and smile while taking it! Don’t even ask about skunks though. One of my dogs just hates skunks, and can find them when no one else can. I will probably have to publish the skunk dog wash recipe again soon.

A loyal employee at The Morrison Post/Shawver Press had a birthday this past week. Mary Ellen is an important part of publishing this newspaper, and has always been a valued employee. Happy birthday and thank you! My wife had a birthday since the last issue too! I can’t keep up with it!

The front page has a story on our city snow plowing people. Boy did they get a workout this winter! Thanks for all the hard work.

There are some letters to the editor this week. One, I will reserve comment on and see what other people write in. I really like to hear what you have to say! The other is about the Farmer’s Market. I was involved with the Mapping group that started talking about a renewed effort at an organized farmer’s market. I have been unable to participate recently due to other commitments, but I can tell you that this group is working very hard to make this happed. It is something that many citizens have shown a lot of interest in, and something that would be really great in our community. Look for more information to come regarding the farmer’s market!

I cannot leave the scandal of the week alone. This one just has too much juicy stuff to leave it untouched. New York Governor (actually resigned now) Eliot Spitzer, known as the “Sheriff of Wall Street”, was discovered to have paid for an evening with a call girl in a ritzy hotel the day before Valentines Day. Do you think he tried to talk his way out of this one with his wife? “I was asking her what she thought YOU would like for Valentine’s Day Honey. No really!” Sometimes, when you find yourself in a deep hole, the best thing you can do is stop digging. The irony lies in the contrast between his apparent actions and his straight laced no nonsense image. He made a name for himself taking down groups who did business in unethical manners. When it comes down to it, it wasn’t the stones that Spitzer threw that cost him his career. It was the glass house that he lived in. (Yes, that analogy was stolen from a Billie Joel album cover.)

Thanks for reading our weekly paper. Thanks also for helping us grow, and to all of those businesses who support us through advertising.
