Editorial

Little white lies. I say they eat away at our integrity as a person. Apparently it is accepted practice when you are trying to get elected. Presidential hopeful, Hillary Clinton was caught in a little white lie last week when she said that she encountered “sniper fire” when they got off the plane during her visit to Bosnia in 1996. She stuck to this story for a few days until a reporter (who was also on the plane) called her on it. According to the reporters, Clinton and her daughter got off the plane smiling and waving, and there were no bullets involved. I don’t think that is the kind of integrity we should look for in a president. The other candidates have also been caught in lies too though! Obama said that he co-sponsored a bill that he had nothing to do with. The actual sponsor of the bill said it was “news to him.” McCain was caught in one a few months ago. The thing I can defend him with is that he actually came clean and called it what it was…A lie. What are these people thinking anyhow? They know that they are in the spotlight all the time and everything that they do and say is recorded.

I have never had the stomach for lying. I don’t know if it makes me a better person than anyone else, but I have never had the ability to carry a lie. I don’t see what it adds in everyday life. It makes me lousy at poker for sure. I can’t even bluff. If I only tell my wife part of the truth, I have to come back and fess up to the rest of it.

I guess I don’t have a chance at being President! Maybe I took that “pants on fire” thing too seriously as a kid. I hope the “step on the cracks” thing isn’t true for Mom’s sake! Telling an untruth means that you do not respect your audience enough to tell them a truth.

Spring is always the busiest time in our house. I think many families are that way. Get the yard ready. Spend time outdoors. Do all the things you couldn’t do all winter. My parents used to say something about “blowing the stink off ya.” It always made me wonder. Could I get away without bathing? Just go outside and….
