And then there were two. It looks like we now have two presidential hopefuls. One democrat and one republican. It looks like I have two great choices to represent me. Obama is just like me, except for his views on rural people and guns and pride in his country (or lack there of). Oh, he is all for urban America, and has listened to a preacher who preaches extreme rhetoric for years. Other than those things, we mostly agree. My other choice is McCain. Other than being involved in some questionable campaign finance dealings a number of years ago, being married to a much younger (and rich) woman, our age, and our thoughts on our involvement in Iraq, we are totally in sync also. Ok. I am speaking a little sarcastically. I just have a hard time getting excited about the candidates who will probably be on the ballot during the next presidential election. I can think of at least half a dozen people I know who would represent Americans in the Midwest better than these two. I guess it is what we have to work with. Let’s try to make chicken salad.

It may be strange, but I kind of enjoy finding ways to stretch the energy I use. I have heard that necessity is the mother of invention, and I agree. A real bonus is that by saving money, I actually get to feel “greener”. Using less energy is good for the environment and the pocketbook. Don’t get me wrong; If I want to go to town for dinner, or turn on the air conditioning because it’s too hot to get a good night’s rest, I do it! It’s all about choices. We still get the race car out, but we are going to closer races and doing overnights to double the racing we get for the travel fuel when we can.

Speaking of racing. I did finally get the car put together and went to a race. I figured if I didn’t bite the bullet and make it a priority, I would never find the time to do it. Of course I didn’t get much sleep that week, but the car ran well and we had a great first outing for the season. It’s really gratifying when a project like that works out well. Now we have to catch up on all the things that didn’t get done while building and racing. My wife mentioned Jed Clampet and the family as we rolled into the driveway after a weekend of racing. We wouldn’t have to worry about that tall grass if we had some goats. With my luck, Barrack Obama’s motorcade toured the countryside and they took notes as they drove past our house. Now they can really stereotype we country folk.

I attended the first Farmers’ Market of the season in Morrison on Saturday. It was something that my entire family enjoyed. My young son got something great to eat and visited with everyone he saw. My wife looked and shopped and bought. I mostly talked and took pictures. It sure seems like this is going to be a successful venture. I know I will be visiting on a regular basis. The weather could cooperate a little bit, and it would be good for everyone. Enough with the rain OK?

Thanks to all who read and support The Morrison Post. You make it possible to be who we are. Have a great week.
