CCC Alumni Association Outstanding Awards 2008

Since 1981, the Clinton Community College Alumni Association has been honoring those that have made “outstanding” contributions during the year. On May 12 six individuals and businesses were recognized at the annual Outstanding Awards.

The 2008 Outstanding Business Associate is U.S. Cellular. U.S. Cellular is a sponsor of the B-rrry Scurry Race. For four years, Phyllis Peters has led her team of volunteers in staffing the B-rrry Scurry post race refreshment station, which serves hundreds of race participants each year. In addition, U.S. Cellular has donated and helped deliver surplus refreshments to area nursing homes and other service agencies. U.S. Cellular is truly committed to the community.

The 2008 Outstanding Friend of the College is Jerry Richter.
As the college works to make our environment eco-friendly and ‘green’, Jerry Richter does so for CCC by supporting our reduction in paper waste and our dependence to dispose of the by-product of our work setting. Jerry helps us to recycle and reuse our paper by using the shredded paper as bedding for his cattle. Jerry Richter is truly a friend of the environment and a friend of CCC.

The 2008 Outstanding Volunteer is Jule Luckritz.
“Dedication” is the word to describe Jule Luckritz. Jule has been diligent when volunteering his time working with our literacy students. He always adds that little something extra that benefits the student in the real world. Amidst health issues, Jule will either stop in or call to see if any students are in need of a tutor. In addition, articles about Jule have brought attention to the CCC ABE Literacy program, sparking others to become tutors or get assistance from our program. Jule is an outstanding volunteer!

The 2008 Outstanding Faculty/Staff member is Beth Wood.
Beth Wood has been a pioneer of online teaching at Clinton Community College. She devotes countless hours to creating and developing courses for the many classes she teaches, and serves as a mentor for others beginning their own online teaching experience. In addition, Beth is active in the ICCOC, the online consortium, an excellent representative of CCC and EICCD. She takes teaching to a higher level, and is on the cutting edge of technology. Beth’s commitment to students is obvious to those working with her on the Sharar Foundation Scholarship Committee. She diligently reviews the bi-annual pile of applications to determine the best fit of scholarship and student. She is also an active member of Kappa Delta Gamma, serving as the recruitment chairperson of that organization.

The 2008 Outstanding Graduate is Idena Snyder.
The 2008 Outstanding Graduate has taken a long and winding road to her Associates Degree. Truly a non-traditional student, Idena Snyder was employed at International Paper for more than 30 years when the business closed their doors. Thanks to information shared at IP, Idena became aware of the programs at CCC and began her journey to a college degree. With much support from family, friends and our Adult Basic Education instructors, Idena successfully completed her GED in 2004. She then crossed the hallway into credit classes.
Idena is an inspiration to staff and students alike. She is in study groups, and you will find Idena working with others here in our Student Space. And she serves as a cheerleader, encouraging others to continue their own education. Upon graduation, Idena plans to continue her education until she achieves her goal of working in law enforcement.

The 2008 Outstanding Alumnus is Connie Seifert.
Connie Seifert is a hardworking CCC graduate who still spends much of her time on campus. She completed her Masters Degree in December, while working full-time and maintaining her many community commitments. One of those commitments is serving as president of the CCC Alumni Association.
Connie Seifert is an outstanding alumnus of CCC. During the completion of her degrees, health issues and family heartbreak challenged her, but Connie persevered with her ever present smile and positive attitude. Connie Seifert values education, for herself and others. She has offered each of her grandchildren an education at CCC, complete with room & board at Grandma’s house. That is outstanding!
