Call to Local Artistss for "A Taste of Nature"

Artists are again this year invited to take part in this 3rd. annual community art show. It is a day long community event sponsored by the Natural Area Guardians of Whiteside County Saturday, September 27th at the Morrison Odell Library, 10:00 – 5:00, inside and out - so come rain or shine! Art media of many forms and home-made food items will be on sale for everyone’s enjoyment.

Local and regional artists are invited to take part in this event which has become an annual event to show off the skills of local artisan talents in many art forms as wood carving and whittling; painting of oils, watercolor, and pastels; photography; weaving; pottery; fine arts jewelry; and, specialty cards. The theme of the Show, "A Taste of Nature", is to promote nature and the natural environment. All art items and displays should reflect this content to promote the natural environment.

The Whiteside County Natural Area Guardians, NAGs, are a sub-committee of the Whiteside County Soil and Water Conservation District. In 2006, the Natural Area Guardians held the first Taste of Nature Art Show and Bake Sale as a fundraising venture and as an opportunity to showcase local artists. Many of the Natural Area Guardians’ membership are accomplished artists. The marriage of the love for art and love of nature (- and good “food treats” ) resulted in A Taste of Nature.

Interested artists can contact the Soil & Water Conservation District at 815-772-2124 #3 or Elisa Rideout at 815-772-4117 for additional information and a registration form. Basic art work guidelines request that all pieces are original art and are made of natural materials and/or follow the content theme – to promote Nature and our natural environment.
