Whiteside County Deputies responded to Galt Road and Spruce Street, Galt on August 14, 2008, at approximately 1:49 a.m., on the report of a single vehicle roll over crash Investigation revealed a 1990 Pontiac driven by Cody A. Rhodes, 18 of Sterling was traveling southbound on Galt Road when he left the roadway, lost control and skidded sideways into a culvert and ditch at Spruce Street. The vehicle went air born and rolled, resting in the yard at 5207 Spruce Street. Cody and his passenger Randy E. Rhodes, 17, of Galt, were both transported to CGH Medical Center by ambulance for their injuries.

Cody was charged with DUI – Alcohol, Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid a Crash and Unlawful Consumption of Alcohol as a Minor. Randy was charged with Unlawful Consumption of Alcohol as a Minor. Both were released with Notices to Appear in Court.

The Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office investigated a one-vehicle traffic crash on Cattail Road by the Fulton Golf Course on August 15, 2008 at approximately 12:38 a.m. A car, driven by Devon M. Bateman, 20, Fulton, slid out of control and struck a tree. The car was totaled. Bateman was transported by ambulance to Mercy Hospital. He later died of his injuries. The crash remains under investigation.
