Here’s how it works: if you are age 40 or older, have insurance that pays for your mammogram, and you are due for a mammogram in the following month, ask a friend, family member, or coworker, who does not have insurance or who has a high deductible, to take part in this special. When you call (815) 535-1389 on the first Tuesday of the month, between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., a Registered Nurse volunteer will ask for your name, address, phone number, physician, when you had your last mammogram and where, and what insurance you have. At that time she will also ask you for the name and phone number of the person that you are calling to sponsor. The volunteer will contact the person that you are sponsoring and, if she is eligible, will take care of getting her set up for a mammogram.
A woman’s risk for breast cancer increases with age. The American Cancer Society has continued to recommend that women age 40 and older have a screening mammogram every year and should continue to do so for as long as they are in good health. Mammograms save lives by helping doctors find cancer in its earliest stages. Digital mammography has made early detection even more likely. CGH Medical Center offers digital mammography, which allows the radiologists to enhance, magnify, or otherwise manipulate the image in order to make a more accurate diagnosis.
The CGH Health Foundation is dedicated to enriching the quality of life for our area community members and generations to come. It is the philanthropic 501(c)3 organization for all charitable contributions made to CGH Medical Center. Nearly $1-million has been spent on health-related programs, patient services and medical equipment in the last decade. The CGH Health Foundation’s Women’s Cancer Prevention Program is a year-round project which provides financial assistance for eligible individuals for mammograms, Pap exams, and physician visits, along with breast and gynecologic health education.
The “Two-for-One Tuesday” Mammogram Program is partially funded through the generosity of the CGH Health Foundation, Team Underwires and The Voucher Programs, which are funded by a grant from Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Quad Cities Affiliate.
