William Cassatt (1925 - 2012)

William Cassatt, 86, of Sterling, IL, died Saturday, March 3, 2012, at his home. 

He was born on October 29, 1925, in Bloomfield, IA, the son of Harold and Chloe (Carruthers) Cassatt.  He married Teresa Werthmann on July 22, 1946, at St. Joseph Church in Davenport, IA.  He was a past bowler, staunch Democrat, and an avid Chicago Cubs fan.

He worked as a trucking dispatcher for many years and was also the owner of Bill's Place tavern in Sterling for 16 years.

Surviving are his wife, Teresa; six daughters, Mary (James) Lawrence of Sterling, Susan (Ed) Bankes of El Cajon, CA, Chris (Danny) Leisner of Sterling, Roberta (Randall) Repp of Ottawa, IL, Sandra (Jeff) Elsasser of Carmichael, CA, and Kathy (Dan) Milnes of Morrison, IL; one sister, Mary (William) Spahr of Lakeside, CA; one brother, James (Opal) Cassatt of Freeport, IL; ten grandchildren, Cindi Payne, James Lawrence, Jr., Shawn Bankes, Sara Leisner, Theresa Hill, Jodie Gaffey, Danielle Mills, Breanna Milnes, Rachel Elsasser, and Kyle Elsasser; 12 great-grandchildren, Luke Payne, Abby Payne, Jeri Kay Payne, Taylor Payne, Isiah Lawrence, Megan Bankes, Ava Pazera, Ellie Pazera, Aaliyah Gaffey, Alyssa Gaffey, Alyvia Gaffey, and Ivy Mills; two great-great-grandchildren, Teagan Payne and Mason Payne.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Charles, Harold, Jr., and Harvey.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday March 6, 2012, at the McDonald Funeral Home & Crematory in Rock Falls, IL. The memorial service will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Donald Ahles officiating.

Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Sterling, IL.

Memorials may be directed toward amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and multiple sclerosis research.
