L-R Nick Pompou, Alex Riggen and Jacob Medendorp

“Far From Words” band consisting of three local college students needs your vote in helping them obtain a trip to Salem, Missouri.

Alex Riggen, Jacob Medendorp and Nick Pompou would like a chance to become the “Best Garage Band in America”. From now until April 30, 2005 you can vote once a day for this band. The top 900 bands with the most votes will be able to perform in Salem from July 21st until July 24.

First place will receive $5,000; second - $1,000; and third - $500. To vote for “Far From Words” visit Garage Stock.

The three-piece band consists of Alex who plays guitar and does the vocal, Jacob on keyboard and Nick who plays the drums. They write and compose their own songs, which consist of 16 right now. They just cut their first CD in a Chicago recording studio and hope to have them for sale shortly.

The group is all 2004 graduates of Morrison High School and are freshmen at Sauk Valley Community College. They have played together in different bands for many years and decided to go out on their own.

Alex has been writing songs since his junior year in high school and wanted to be able to perform them live. He is the one who got the band started. Jacob has been playing piano since the 4th grade and Nick taught himself to play drums six years ago.

To visit their website see Far From Words for information, to listen to some of their songs and upcoming concerts.
