On September 17, 1787, patriotic citizens across the land gathered to ring church bells–as they did in Philadelphia, PA, when the U. S. Constitution was first signed, at 4:00 p.m.
On the final day of 2026 Constitution Week, Wednesday, September 23, Emmanuel Church’s carillon was supposed to play “Pealing Bells” from noon to 12:01 p.m., at 202 E. Morris Street, Morrison, IL.
Unfortunately, Rich Criss, Director of Music at Emmanuel Church, stated the musical programming would not work.
Even though the bell sound will not be available today, each citizen can take a minute to be grateful for the protections held by “We the People” within the United States Constitution.
